The Job:
An opportunity has arisen for a Boatsman to join a well-established trout farm in Scotland. This hands-on role involves working on the water daily, assisting with essential farm operations to ensure the health and welfare of the fish stock while maintaining high standards of efficiency and biosecurity. The Boatsman will support feeding routines, monitor fish health and behaviour, and assist with grading and harvesting operations. Following strict biosecurity protocols, they will conduct routine health checks, report abnormalities, and play a key role in maintaining fish quality and overall farm productivity.

In addition to fish welfare responsibilities, the Boatsman will operate and maintain boats, nets, and mooring systems, ensuring all equipment is regularly inspected and kept in good working order. They will also assist with the installation and repair of farm infrastructure on the water, contributing to the smooth running of daily operations. Compliance with health, safety, environmental, and welfare regulations is a vital aspect of the role, requiring accurate record-keeping and proactive monitoring of water quality. The Candidate:
- Experience in fish farming, aquaculture, or a marine-based role
- Ability to operate and maintain boats and associated equipment
- Understanding of fish welfare, feeding, and handling
- Mechanical skills for minor repairs and maintenance
- Knowledge of health & safety regulations in an aquatic environment
- Positive attitude and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions
- Powerboat or marine qualifications
- Experience with net maintenance and moorings
- First Aid & Health & Safety training
