Crop Manager
Crop Manager - Kent - Salary negotiable with experience + Company Vehicle
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual eager to take full ownership and responsibility for managing a crop from planting through to harvest. The focus will be on achieving top-tier results in yield, quality, and consistency, all while keeping costs under control.
The successful candidate will join a committed team of full-time staff, collaborating closely with the current Farm Manager. They will also have access to the knowledge and support of the wider business, offering valuable resources to help drive success.
The Job:
- Take charge of the daily operations for salad and vegetable crop production
- Work in partnership with the Farm Manager to strategies and organise all aspects of growing activities
- Liaise with the Agronomist to implement spray and fertilizer plans on schedule
- Oversee irrigation planning and supervise the seasonal irrigation team
- Deliver accurate crop forecasts promptly to support the sales team
- Supervise a large team of seasonal workers, including harvest staff, supervisors, and tractor operators
- Uphold health and safety protocols during harvest operations while ensuring food safety standards are met
- Oversee performance and productivity of harvest staff, including managing work schedules
- Provide support for the smooth operation and upkeep of staff accommodation
The Candidate:
- A strong dedication to and thorough knowledge of Health and Safety practices
- Practical experience in crop management, including the cultivation, harvesting, and delivery of crops according to planned schedules
- Expertise in irrigation systems and scheduling
- Excellent communication skills with proven experience in leading and managing teams
- Skilled in overseeing and coordinating large groups of seasonal staff
- Competent in using MS Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Teams); familiarity with Gatekeeper or similar farm management software is a bonus
- Holding BASIS and FACTS qualifications are beneficial but not essential
