Job description

Field Biologist – Agricultural Research and Trials
The Job
Our client is a market leader in independent agricultural research and development, specialising in crop production, protection, nutrition, genetics, and environmental stewardship. They are seeking a highly motivated Field Biologist to plan, execute, and deliver a robust field trials programme in the UK.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing 30–50 field trials annually, focusing on GEP bio-efficacy trials with some GLP study involvement.
  • Developing detailed action plans for trial programmes and ensuring timely delivery of results.
  • Liaising with Site Managers, farmers, and suppliers to secure land, crops, and resources.
  • Capturing, summarising, and interpreting trial data for customer and project reporting.
  • Adhering to GEP/GLP guidelines, legal safety standards, and company protocols.
  • Providing specialised knowledge in a specific technical area and offering guidance to colleagues.
  • Supervising and motivating assistants and temporary staff during field trials.
  • Collaborating with managers to maintain client satisfaction and ensure future business development.
This is a hands-on role, involving outdoor fieldwork under varying weather conditions, alongside data analysis and reporting.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in managing agricultural field trials and excellent technical knowledge in agriculture or biological sciences. You will need:
  • A degree in Agriculture, Biological/Life Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience conducting GEP or GLP field trials.
  • NPTC PA1 and PA6 qualifications (PA2 and PA11 desirable, with training available if needed).
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital data management systems.
  • The ability to work effectively independently and within a team, coupled with a proactive and adaptable attitude.
  • Physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions.
