Trout Farm Manager

Scotland – Competitive Salary + Accommodation Available

 

The Job:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trout Farm Manager to take full responsibility for the daily operations and management of a well-established trout farm in Scotland. This hands-on role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of fish farming practices to ensure high productivity, fish welfare, and environmental compliance.

The successful candidate will oversee fish health, farm operations, stock management, and staff development, playing a key role in the continuous improvement and success of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

🔹 Farm Operations & Stock Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the farm, ensuring all operations are efficient and productive.
  • Manage fish health and welfare, including feeding schedules, stock movements, and harvesting.
  • Monitor water quality, biosecurity, and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure the grading and harvesting of fish meets production targets and quality standards.
🔹 Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and manage a team of farm staff, ensuring high performance and staff development.
  • Provide training and mentoring to employees to improve farm efficiency and fish care.
  • Implement and maintain health & safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
🔹 Equipment & Site Maintenance

  • Ensure all boats, nets, and farm infrastructure are well-maintained and fully operational.
  • Oversee repairs and maintenance of farm equipment and ensure facilities meet operational requirements.
🔹 Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all industry regulations, including fish welfare, environmental management, and biosecurity measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of farm performance, stock levels, and health monitoring.
  • Liaise with suppliers, regulatory bodies, and senior management to ensure farm success.

The Candidate:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Trout Farm Manager with strong leadership skills and a solid understanding of aquaculture operations.

Your CV should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in fish farming or aquaculture management.
  • Strong team leadership and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of fish health, nutrition, and biosecurity best practices.
  • Understanding of water quality monitoring and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of fish welfare and farm efficiency.
  • Hands-on, practical approach with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
Desirable:

  • Powerboat or marine qualifications.
  • Experience with hatchery management and stock breeding programs.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance reporting.
